Jakarta oh Jakarta

Traffic, traffic, traffic. it always come to my mind when i think about Jakarta.
i have lived in this city for 21 years. But the traffic jam is never reduced, each year the traffic have even more severe increases. The local government has made great efforts to overcome it, however, none of them has not succeeded yet. The causes are so various that the local government seems to be confused where to start. I think there are several ways to solve this problem, that cause many people a headache.

First we need more massive public transportation, the goverment already have Transjakarta and also plans to build the MRT. but its development is slow. the corridor hasn't reach every main road on Jakarta. MRT has been implemented in many other countries, The evidence has been shown by the government of Thailand in Bangkok where the traffic there now is much lighter than it was years ago when there were not yet monorail trains.

second is to apply odd and even license number of vehicles which can be operated on different days. For example, the vehicles with odd number plates can only be operated on Monday, Wednesday and Friday whereas the ones with even number plates are only to be driven on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. On Sundays, as most people of Jakarta are away, all vehicles can be operated. By this system, the number of vehicles operated on a certain day will be half of the number of vehicles registered in Jakarta. If this system can be applied accordingly I guarantee that the traffic congestions could be diminished dramatically.

and most important is the awareness of Jakarta residents to use public transport. Not only use but also take care of it. and I think it is the government's short-term option.if all are on the run I'm sure traffic will be reduced drastically in jakarta.

I hope the next three years jakarta was not like this anymore:

But be more like this :

thank you to everyone who cares about the traffic congestion in Jakarta as well as solutions to overcome it.
